Simon Millard KARM

I am the founder of Kent Anger Management (KARM) and have worked in the field for 30 years.

I am an anger manager, accredited counsellor (NCPS), child counsellor (working in Primary schools), life coach (TNC), family mediator (nonpracticing), and group/course facilitator. I abide by the code of ethics of the NCPS, use the 'Humanistic' model and regularly attend Supervision and CPD workshops. One of my main ambitions is for better outcomes for families and especially children - seeds sown now will hopefully help to bring positive changes in the future.

The Corn Riddle

  • Grinding corn, Mexico 1902

Maize originated in what is now called Guatemala some thousands of years ago. According to the Maya creation myth from the sacred Maya book the Popol Vuh, corn was used by the Gods to create people, after other materials—like wood and mud—failed.

To grow corn, seeds must be planted, harvested, and replanted - so corn and humans are certainly related!

  • Indigenous mother and daughter

Natural ‘indigenous’ peoples of Central America are ‘from’ our Mother Earth and their whole life feeds the Holy living in harmony– everything they do, wear, eat and live! They know that the dear Mother Corn is the foremost Deity, and by treating Her respectfully and remembering Her and Her story, meaning life done well now will allow life to be lived well in a time to come – ‘planting seeds now for a time beyond our own’ as my Teacher says.I have started and my hope is many more will to.

  • Planting Corn Seed

So, planting a small kernel now with breath and prayers shows Her that something precious does still exist in these sometimes-crazy scientific times where so much of the most important past learnings and livings of humans have been forgotten. On one grown cob there can be over 300 seeds for planting next year if you have asked for permission, gained the knowledge and had a deal of luck– this is magical!

  • Corn Field

If I can offer something thoughtful positive and honest in this moment, then this ‘time’ will be the good and fertile soil for future time, and if not...well just look around you and see what happens! Our world needs many more people living life this way to change the future for our children and those that follow us. I have started and my hope is many more will to.

“Simon showed great compassion towards me and helped me engage with my emotions at a level I had never felt comfortable with before. I found our sessions to be hugely helpful in recognising the role that my emotions, and the emotions of others, played in my life, and Simon guided me through this journey. Simon wasn't afraid to challenge me, but he was quick to establish an environment of mutual respect which allowed us to explore the course openly.”
